Meet the Team: Ramsey Bland

Welcome to Reggora’s “Meet the Team” series! Reggora is powered by a team of smart, hard working people dedicated to the mission of appraisal innovation, and we’ve all taken very different paths to get here. In this series, we’ll introduce you to different members of the Reggora family. This week features Ramsey Bland, who joined Reggora in December of 2020 to help Reggora continue to scale the platform.

Ramsey Bland: Senior Frontend Developer

Q: Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up? Go to school? What do you enjoy doing?

A: I grew up in the small town of Bemus Point, NY, where I still live to this day. While there was a brief one and a half year period where I moved to Buffalo, I decided I wanted to be closer to my family, so that didn’t last long! When I was young, I always knew I wanted a career working with computers, so naturally, I studied Computer Science at State University of New York at Fredonia, only 30 minutes from home :). I enjoy spending time outdoors golfing, camping, or fishing, but most of my free time is spent with my 2 children.

Q: Where did you work before Reggora?

A: I started out my career in Buffalo at a company called Computer SOS, writing software to manage little league baseball systems. From there I moved back home to work for the only software company in my area, Libera. Here I worked on multiple different systems for government agencies (e.g. Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living). After 7 years at Libera, I decided I wanted to transition into a more frontend devoted role, and started working remotely as a Senior Frontend Developer for a company called Wanderu. From there I transitioned to a consulting firm called Saggezza, where I worked as a Technical Consultant specializing in frontend technologies, before being introduced to Reggora.

Q: Why did you join the Reggora team?

A: Despite not actively looking for a new position, when I heard about the culture and business plan at Reggora, I felt it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. Everyone I talked to was enthusiastic about the future of the company, and I really wanted to be a part of it. Since joining I have not been disappointed and am ready to buckle in for the long haul that is appraisal automation.

Q: What do you do here at Reggora?

A: I am a Senior Frontend Developer working on the Platform team. Our primary responsibility and goal is to set up the proper architecture to enable other teams to build, deploy, and maintain code in a scalable manner. As the first employee to be hired strictly as a frontend developer, I am helping with the automated testing, architecture, and research needed to continue scaling our applications.

One of the challenges has been contributing on the backend as well as the frontend but I love learning new technologies and embrace anything that comes my way.

Q: What’s something you’ve learned while working at Reggora? 

A: I’ve learned a lot about appraisals (go figure) since I started. Prior to joining, I really didn’t know much about the industry or how much need there was for a platform like Reggora to help speed up and simplify the appraisal process. As I became more familiarized with the industry and the platform, the need for a product like ours and the impact it has for our customers has become increasingly obvious. Working here has got me looking forward to buying my next house, so I can actually sound like I know what I’m talking about this time!

Q: What’s something that has surprised you since joining the team?

A: I think the biggest surprise here has been how well everyone works together being 100% remote. The amount of quality work that has been accomplished just in this past year is astonishing. I hope to continue that trend by sharing some of the valuable knowledge I’ve learned over the last 11 years developing software systems.
